Our poster was heavily inspired by a grand opening poster for Bobby Seale’s health clinic in 1971.

A person's ability to provide for themselves and their family is invaluable. Theft of generational wealth, credit discrimination and predatory lending has been used to perpetuate generations of poverty on the Black community. 

For hundreds of years, the racist U.S. government has used several tactics via private and public entities that have led to continued disparagement of our community. The people must create institutions within our communities that are controlled and run by the people in order to ensure the survival and generational prosperity of Charleston's Black communities. 

With this in mind, Charleston Black Lives Matter announces the opening of our first financial training classes with a racial equity lens at St. Julian Devine Community Center. I’m so excited to start teaching Black Power Financial Literacy classes starting Wednesday, January 27th at 6-7:30 p.m. atSt. Julian Devine Community Center.Please spread the word and check out the poster for more info!

Community preservation and economic empowerment was so important to the Black Panther Party and we are proud to be following in their footsteps!
