Do Better

We’ve reached the halfway point for 2013. For me, the first half of 2013 was like one of those awful girls from middle school: a big bully.

However, after a few self-help books, a reunion with my yoga mat, several nervous breakdowns that involved a jar of Nutella, and an extreme pep talk from my mom, I’ve realized that it’s time to get it together.

Maybe you’re feeling like that, too. Maybe you went through a weird break up and got a lot of migraines and then your car started to break down piece by piece. Maybe your bank account is pretty empty and your dog won’t stop eating goose poop. (Ahem, not that I would know about any of those things from personal experience.)

If that’s the case, welcome to my club. Might I offer you a spoonful of Nutella to ease your troubles?

But seriously. The more these unexpected, minor obstacles jump out in front of me, the more I realize that I’m capable and strong enough to handle them. Just last week, I was in the last stretch of yoga and thought I was going to vomit if I did one more thing. Then, our teacher challenged us to do one final wheel pose and I almost started to cry. But then she said something amazing. “Y’all,” she said, “sometimes you just need to remind yourself that you’re a bad ass mother *#&@#$.”

She’s right. We all have that inside of us. We’re all warriors in some form or fashion.

Sometimes, it just takes being knocked down to unleash it.
