The idea for a state license plate supporting Childhood Cancer started with a Summerville mother, Julie Reynolds. She reached out to Chase After a Cure with the vision and sadly, as a way to honor her 17-year-old daughter Rachel, who died in 2014 from a rare form of cancer.

The “Chase Away Childhood Cancer” plate is available for motor vehicles across South Carolina. The cost for the plate is $50 every two years as well as the normal motor vehicle registration fee.

You can purchase your plate online at scdmvonline.com, or by mail or at your local DMV office.

The release date of the license plate was at the beginning of September which also happens to be the Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a huge effort that is nationwide to draw attention to this very dire need for more pediatric cancer research funding.

In the United States, over 15,000 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year and about 1/4 of those will not survive.

The license plate is being pushed to be in all 50 states to draw more nationwide attention this serious cause.

Margaret Marcoe, the marketing director for Chase After a Cure, stated, “This is a daily reminder to people of the need for more childhood cancer awareness and research funding. We hope when people are sitting in traffic and see this license plate in front of them, they will pause to consider all the children fighting cancer and the need for more research into better treatments and an eventual cure.”

This isn't the only way to support, Chase After a Cure". There is also the local Mount Pleasant shop, Nothing Bundt Cake, who is donating 10% of sales for customers who mention "Chase After a Cure."

Chase After a Cure funds provide research and clinical trials that are severely important to provide treatments, advancements and ultimately one day, a cure. Childhood cancer is the #1 cause of death by disease among children. How horrible!?

The numbers increase every year for the children being diagnosed. As well, there is more disappointing news, only 3 drugs have been approved by the FDA to treat children with childhood cancer.

Lets do our part and help where we can, donate or purchase this plate which will hopefully bring more awareness to this horrible disease.
