What would I be without my makeup brushes? From the beauty beginner to the all-out makeup maven, owning and using brushes when creating a beauty look is so important and should come naturally to you. If it doesn't, honey—get out that credit card because brushes will change your life. What would Michelangelo have done if someone would have handed him a q-tip or a sponge applicator when he was asked to paint the Sistine Chapel? I’m sorry I had to go there but now you know how serious I am about a good brush!

I find the subject matter of makeup brushes so important that I’m going to break it up into 3 sections:

1. Why brushes are important

2. How to use them and which brushes are best

3. How to clean and store your brushes

Alright, here we go: The pros of using a brush:

Brushes make makeup go on differently because they pick up and distribute color evenly, making the skin look fresher and the makeup last longer.

They let you achieve different looks from the same article of makeup by using a different applicator (brush) when applying (e.g. a dense brush will apply color a bit heavier whereas a loose brush will apply just a whisper of color).

For the reasons above, you will save money on makeup in the end.

They keep your makeup bacteria-free as long as you are using clean brushes.

Using a brush makes applying makeup a luxurious, pampering experience. I cannot tell you how many times a client has told me that they wanted to fall asleep in my chair!

Each brush is made from a special hair and cut in a certain way to create the perfect look.

There you go, my makeup beauties! I challenge you to go through your makeup drawers and bags and look at the tools you have been using to apply makeup to that gorgeous face of yours. Get ready for the next installment of the blog: I am going to share with you the who, what, and where when it comes to finding the perfect brush.

In the meantime, remember that finger painting is for kids and q-tips are for cleanups!

Until next time,

XOXO
